How import the NewsMerge Database into MS SQL 2000?

Created on 2002-11-26 by Andre Lorbach.

This FAQ-Article describes how to import your existing NewsMerge Database into MS SQL 2000.

I assume that you have the following things: A NewsMerge database (MS Access Format - file is called NewsMergeDB.mdb- On Windows NT/9x this file is located in the NewsMerge directory and on Windows2000/XP it is located in the common documents folder),  a machine with MS SQL 2000 installed and MS Access 2002.

1. First open the NewsMerge database in MS Access 2002 and then activate the "Upsizing Wizard" from the "Tools->Database Utilities" menu. The following screen will appear.

2. Select your SQL Server (local in my case) and the Database name of the new database.

3. Move all tables with the ">>" button to the right side and proceed.

4. Proceed the following steps as shown in the screenshots below.

5. After this you have to configure NewsMerge to use the MS SQL Server instead of the Access Database. To do this, open the options in NewsMerge and go to the database tab. Change the settings like below (I this sample I use "sa" as username and "password" as password). For more details see the screenshot below.
