I get the error "System does not supply standard shared document location".

This problem is related to a problem with the NewsMerge installer. It sometimes does not set necessary NewsMerge registry values correctly (Happens only under Windows 9x / ME). 

However, you have to correct it manually by doing the following steps.

1. Open regedit.exe from the Startmenu->Run.
2. Change to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adiscon\NewsMerge". 
3. Add a DWORD Value called "nDatabaseLocationChecked" and set it to "1" (Without quotes).
4. Close Regedit.exe.
5. Start NewsMerge again.
